Good old-fashioned Granny's Bonnet. A double-flowering form.
A striking plant with its double deep red / maroon, pink, and white blooms in October & November. Flowers are proliferate for up to 6 weeks.
Unlike most Aquilegia, Winky's blooms are upwardly facing, which makes him a little unique. The emerging bloom begins with deep red and pretty yellow-green tones unravelling to reds, pinks, and white. It's a great cut flower, too.
This plant forms a compact clump, not much more than 30 x 30cm.
Easy to grow, extremely hardy. Grows in the full sun as well as the shade, average to medium moisture. Dislikes drying out - so not suited to a dry sunny clay bank in the wind! Ideal in the rock garden, woodland garden, and cottage garden. Perfect for growing in a container.
