Astrantia major 'Primadonna'

Highly sought-after Giant Masterwort.

This is a beautiful and unusual cut flower that lasts for a long time in water. It is perfect for the informal garden and for those who love to pick flowers.

The eye-catching flowers are attractively claret-pink and green (lighter and darker flower colour variations naturally occur). The flower resembles countless pins in a pincushion amidst rich and lush, deeply serrated foliage that appears in summer. Although there are variations in the depth of colour in the flowers, I have constantly been culling the lighter colours to end up with the rich-coloured line.

Grows approx. 60 x 60cm in height & width. Grows in a circular clump. It likes a spot that is not too hot or dry. Can cope with quite moist soil.

A hardy plant to grow and generally the slugs and snails do not bother this beauty. Tolerates frosts. Although it is tolerant of most spots the dry places are not its happy place.
